Precision Laser Welding & Jewelry Repair Services

A laser welding machine with a digital display, control panel, and microscope attached for precision welding, labeled 'Laser Welding' in blue and white.

Why Laser?

Laser welding concentrates heat into an extremely small area, allowing metal to be joined, rebuilt, or repaired with considerably less heat transferred through the surrounding piece.

This makes it particularly useful for complex assemblies, finished jewelry, heat-sensitive repairs, and situations where conventional soldering would require unnecessary disassembly.

Services include:

  • Prong rebuilding and retipping

  • Broken prong repair

  • Chain and bracelet repair

  • Ring sizing and shank repair

  • Cracks, breaks, and seam repair

  • Porosity and casting defect repair

  • Bezel and setting repair

  • Filling pits, gouges, and worn areas

  • Repairing or attaching small components

  • Mixed-metal assembly

  • Restoration of worn jewelry

  • Precision fabrication and prototype work

Evaluation and Submission Process

A Working Jewelry Studio

Pallas Fogg is first and foremost a working jewelry studio.

The same laser used for repair work is used in the fabrication of original Pallas Fogg jewelry—building settings, joining components, developing new constructions, and working with gold, silver-palladium, and other precious-metal alloys.

Studio services have grown naturally from that bench practice: applying specialized tools and careful metalwork to pieces that deserve to be worn and adored for generations.

Jewelry Repair & Restoration

Not every repair requires a laser, and not every piece should be repaired the same way.

Each item is evaluated individually for construction, materials, stone condition, previous repairs, and intended use before work begins. When appropriate, laser welding may be combined with traditional goldsmithing techniques to produce the strongest and least intrusive repair.

Repairs may include ring sizing, broken chains, worn settings, loose stones, damaged prongs, cracked rings, missing components, and restoration of worn or damaged jewelry.

Have something unusual? Send photographs and a brief description for an initial evaluation.

How It Works:

1. Complete the Contact Form Below
Submit a few clear photographs and a description of the problem.

2. Evaluation
I’ll review the construction, materials, stones, determine a likely repair method and provide an estimate when possible.

3. Bench Work
Once approved, you can ship or drop off the piece and the repair is completed using laser welding, traditional bench techniques, or a combination of both.

4. Final Inspection
The repaired area is inspected, cleaned, and finished as appropriate before the piece is returned.

Trade Laser Welding

Precision laser welding services are available to independent jewelers, goldsmiths, designers, repair shops, and other members of the trade.

Whether a repair requires working close to a stone, rebuilding a worn prong, closing a difficult seam, correcting porosity, or completing an assembly that would be problematic with a torch, I can provide laser work as a stand-alone bench service.

Trade work is handled discreetly and can be performed as an individual repair or as recurring bench support.

Common trade work includes:

  • Prong retipping and rebuilding

  • Repairs adjacent to heat-sensitive stones

  • Platinum, palladium, gold, and silver welding

  • Chain and findings repair

  • Porosity filling

  • Component assembly

  • Tack welding before soldering

  • Restoration and reinforcement

  • Small-batch fabrication support

Local drop-off and shipped trade work by arrangement.

As a member of Creative Metal Arts Guild, I am always happy to help fellow artists as I strive to support the local jewelry and art community here in Portland.
